Darjeeling

Darjeeling is a municipality or city in West Bengal, state of India. The Beautiful town is situated in the minor Himalaya at altitude of 6700 ft. Darjeeling is known for its Tea Industry, tea plantation, stunning outlook of Kanchenjunga, Third Highest mountain in the world. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway comes in the under of UNESCO Heritage Site. It is most famous tourist destination and the headquarters of Darjeeling district.

The Name Darjeeling is combination of two Tibetan words – (Dorge + Ling) DORGE means the thunderbolt scepter of the Hindu goddess Indra and LING means a Place.

Tiger Hill Darjeeling

Tiger hill is a beautiful destination which offers to great view of sunrise. It is a place where you can immerse itself with luxury beauty of Himalayan anytime during the day. Tiger hill is 11 km far from Darjeeling town and it is peak point in Darjeeling hill. The best time to visit snow covered peak is October to December and March and April is also good time to visit.

Batasia Loop Darjeeling

You can take toy train from Darjeeling to pass wonderful loop or take Texi from Darjeeling to view beautiful Batasia Loop. This is one of the best places to get 360 degree view of Darjeeling and the gorgeous snow covered peaks of Eastern Himalayan. The toy train track is laid middle of a pretty flowering Garden. It opens from 5am to 8pm everyday and is far from 5km to Darjeeling.

Peace Pagoda (Japanese Temple)

Peace Pagoda is a beautiful Japanese temple which is located 10 mints away from the center of the Darjeeling Town. It was built in typical Japanese style in 1972. Peace Pagoda is a platform to show avatars of Load Buddha and from the top of pagoda you can get a panoramic sight of Darjeeling scenery as well as Kanchenjunga range.

Darjeeling Himalayan Railway

Darjeeling Himalayan railway is also known as Toy Train and it runs between Darjeeling and Jalaiguri. It is narrow gauge trains.

History of Darjeeling

Darjeeling is interlocked boundary of British India, Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan. As well as near the beginning of 19th century, the mountainous area of Darjeeling was undertaken by the kingdom of Sikkim and the plains Silliguri were occupied by Nepal Kingdom. Later 19th century, both area (Darjeeling and Silliguri) is added in West Bengal.
