Shillong- known as "The Scotland of East"


The capital of Meghalaya state also known as "The Scotland of East". This beautiful city is cited in the lap of nature and covered with hills and mountains. The city is situated a height of 5500 ft above the sea level. This place is specially gifted with natural beauty like… lakes, rivers, waterfalls, dense forests etc.

Here in Shillong there are a lot of famous viewpoints and places to visit in and around like:

  • Elephant’s falls – The beautiful water fall located at 7th mile, upper Shillong has its own beauty. You can catch the opportunity to wear traditional Khasi Dress here.
  • Cherrapunjee – "Cherrapunjee" the rainiest place at the planate ‘Earth’ located at a distance of about 70 Kms from Shillong city. In between you can see ‘Seven Sisters Falls’. These are seven water falls in a row creating the beautiful scenery.
  • DAWKI – Dawki is situated at a distance of about 125 km from Shillong. It is the last place of India on India-Bangladesh Boarder. While visiting this place you can also visit the Root Bridge which is a wooden bridge prepared by nature through roots of trees.
  • There is a village near Root Bridge which is awarded as the cleanest village in Asia.

How to reach Shillong

Shillong Road

The city is well connected to Guwahati by road which is at the distance of about 100 Kms. Buses and taxies are available round the clock from Railway station/Airport to Shillong. Shared taxies are also available. Approximate travelling time from Guwahati to Shillong is 3 hrs. The nearest Airport is at Guwahati. Also, Shillong has a small airport. 02 Air India flights flutter from Shillong to Kolkata and back daily.
