Double Decker Root Bridge or Living Root Bridges

In Meghalaya, Double-Decker and Single Decker Root Bridges are the famous and unique in the whole World. Double-decker and Single-decker Bridge is also known as living root bridge. The bridge is a form of tree shaping ordinary in the southern part of the Meghalaya state. There bridges are handmade and create by using rubber tree.

The people Khasi and Jaintia have been trained to cultivate these root bridges from one end to anther end so that the people can cross the cannel and streams easily. The root bridge can hold several people at a time. Living Root Bridge can be over 100 meters and take 12 to 15 year to become completely useful. They Bridge are really so strong – strong enough that it can take more than 50 people at a time. These Double Decker Root Bridge is only found in Meghalaya across the World.

Cherrapunjee (The Wettest Place in the World), located in Meghalaya, living root bridge are situated through the rain forest. As we know very well that Cherrapunjee is the place where maximum rain falls in India. Cherrapunjee (Sohra) and Mawlynnong are the place where the Double Decker Bridge and Single Decker Bridge found. It is located around 55 km away from Shillong. Cherrapunjee is the most visited place due to its number of waterfalls and Single and Double Decker Root Bridge.
