Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass (Hindi रोहतांग दर्रा) is a high mountain pass on the eastern Pir Panjal Range of Himalaya and situated at an altitude 3,978 meter from the Sea level. It connects the Kullu valley with Lehaul and Spiti valleys. Rohtang Pass is located on around 50 km far from Manali, Himachal pradesh. In winter, the pass remains closed due to heavy snowfalls but in the months of May to November the pass is open for motor vehicles. The name Rohtang Means “Ground of Corpses”.

In the summer season, Rohtang pass becomes a perfect place for adventure activities such as snow scooter, skiing, mountain biking and so on. If you are nature lover then you can get pleasure from beautiful scenic of snow peaks, glaciers and Rahala River which flaws down in the Lahual valley. On the Way to Rohtang Pass, almost 16 km far from manali there is a waterfall known as Rahala. It is a superb location especially for photography buffs.

In 2016, Government of Himachal Pradesh decided to issuing permit to prevent pollution in this area. The government is not allowed more the 800 petrol vehicles and 400 diesel vehicles in a day. Permit can be applied for next 2 days from current date. For Getting Permit you should be paying Tex Rs 500. The Tourism permit is valid only for one day. Required Mandatory information before providing Permit are valid ID proof, valid pollution and vehicle Registration date (Vehicle not to be old more than 10 years). You can apply online for vehicle permit.

How to Reach Rohtang Pass

Rohtang pass is only 50 km away from Manali. National highway 21 is also spread through Kullu valley, Manali and over the Rohtang pass to Leh in Ladakh.
