The small town is in eastern Himalayan range and biggest Buddhism monasteries found in town and around 400 years old. This is very important pilgrim centre is India for the followers of Buddhism. The town is also very enriching natural beauty and lovely lofted mountains.
Tawang town located around 3048 meters to the sea level in North East state (Arunachal Pradesh) along with Bhutan border and its weather is alpine. Summer is very short bur winter is so cold and snowfall especially in December and January. In the state around 16 administrative districts and Tawang is one of them. People believe it was main habitants by the Monpa people around 500 to 600 AD but now eighth least populous district in the country.
The History shows the district was part of Tibet in medieval time and local tribal community ruled here. During the British period the part get more importance but before independence of India it was become disagreement after Independence the region came under the India but 1962 China army invaded but later the region withdrew to China.
The town is so important for Buddhist center. The monastery was traced in mid 17th century and founder was a monk Mera Lama that was fifth Dalai Lama people believe that sixth Dalai Lama was also born in the monastery, known as “Galden Namgyal Lhatse”. There is a big storage of Baddish culture that manuscripos and thanka painting related to Baddish religion.
June to December is best time for visit.
