State of Andhra Pradesh is located in south-eastern coast of India. It covers the total area of about 160205 square kilometres. Ranked 8th largest State in the country, it is the 10th largest populated region. The state was established 61 years ago on 1st October 1953. The capital city of Andhra Pradesh is Hyderabad. Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu is the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. E.S.L. Narasimhan is the Governor of the State.

Andhra Pradesh is popularly known as the Rice bowl of India due to the reason that it is a larger producer of Rice in the country. It is also nicknamed as the Egg bowl of Asia as it produces eggs in a large proportion. Apart from rice and eggs, it produces maize, pulses, jowar, wheat, bajra, sugarcane, oil seeds, coarse grains, tobacco, nuts and many other food products. A larger volume of population is engaged in agriculture.

The rich culture of Andhra Pradesh is influenced by the early dynasties that ruled the State for many years. The literature, art and craft, music, dance, architecture, cuisines and religious factors make the State even more remarkable.

Stone craft is among the famous talents of the State. Other specialties include doll making, Kalamkari, which is an ancient art related to textiles, lacquered toys, etc. Makar Sankranti is celebrated as harvest festival across the state along with all major festivals including, Diwali, Dussehra, Raksha Bandhan, Maha Shivratri, Eid, Bakrid, Christmas, Easter, etc.

Kuchipudi is the classical dance form of the State. Other traditional activities such as Hari Katha that states narration of a story and Burra Katha, which means oral storytelling is also performed in some regions of the State.


Surprisingly, snow fall can be experienced in Lambasini region which is a town area in Visakhapatnam. The village is situated thousand metres (1000 m) above sea level and popularly known as the “Kashmir of the Andhra Pradesh” as it is the only destination in the State with snowfall with temperature ranging between 0˚Celcius to 10˚Celcius.

Dense forest regions of the state are divided into four biotic provinces, namely, Central Plateau, Deccan Plateau, East Coastal Plains and Eastern Highland. Adilabad, a region known for waterfalls is a scenic destination in the state. Other destinations with mesmerizing locations include Araku Valley, Rajahmundry, Nagarjuna Sagar, Tyda Nature Camp, etc.


Agriculture is the main occupation being followed by 60% of the Andhra Pradesh habitants. It is a major exporter of many agricultural products that include jowar, bajra, millet, cotton, chilli pepper, sugarcane, tobacco, pulses, maize, etc. Industrial sector of the state include pharma, textiles and automobiles industry. Many renowned firms such as Cadbury, Isuzu Motors, Kobelco, Colgate, Palmolive, Kellogg’s, PepsiCo are located in the Sri City, the business city of Andhra Pradesh. In the field of Biotechnology, the State is emerging exponentially. Moreover, large revenue of the State is generated from the arena of Information Technology. So, Andhra Pradesh can be considered as quite a developed state with good infrastructure and a stable economy.
